Tiivistelmä
This thesis aimed to explore the process of creating a Virtual YouTuber avatar using the Live2D Cubism software. Virtual Youtubers, more commonly referred to as VTubers, are virtual personas used by content creators on YouTube and other platforms, which are controlled with motion capture technology to create engaging videos or live streams for viewers.
The study involved an investigation of the existing VTuber industry and the benefits of using a Vtuber model instead of performing with one’s own face. Different types of VTuber models and the required motion capture equipment were researched as well.
The project outlined the process of creating a virtual avatar from start to finish. The process began with designing the character, then drawing and cutting the model, animating it in Live2D Cubism, and finally testing it in a motion capture software.
The results of the study showed that Live2D Cubism is an effective tool for creating a VTuber avatar, as it provides an easy-to-understand framework and tools that can be used in a variety of ways to create an expressive character. As a result of the project, a functional VTuber avatar was created.
Overall, this thesis provides insights into the technical and creative aspects of creating a VTuber avatar, which can be used by content creators who wish to create their own model.
