Tiivistelmä
Media and arts professionals and academics face multiple restrictions in terms of opportunities, finances, and cultural gaps. The thesis addressed issues in Finland in comparison to other countries. Those limitations resulted in limited research tools.
Networking was suggested as a developmental tool to expand opportunities in media and art. That was achieved through qualitative methods used to identify and compare the problems in the industry between Finland and other coun-tries. Those methods were conducted interviews and a questionnaire with pro-fessionals and academics in the field. The overall aim was to help them bene-fit, explore, and learn in the industry.
The thesis found that Individuals did not receive enough support and they felt that they struggled financially, in addition to challenges in building relevant networks to help. Some cultural gaps and lack of diversity caused issues for artists to collaborate and integrate. A drop was found in funding offered to me-dia and art creation. In addition to the lack of degree-specific jobs for media and art students compared to other industries. That caused a low rate of post-degree employment. Additionally, the high self-orientation in students was ad-dressed as one cause of the lack of integration.
It was concluded that associations, funding organizations, and educational institutions hold a considerable influence on the industry. They were urged to encourage diversity, events, and festivals. In addition to more group work and activities in practice. They were advised to increase funding for professionals and academics. And finally, to decrease the business and social-cultural gaps.
