This thesis investigates the variables affecting inflation in Switzerland as well as the efficiency of mone-tary and fiscal policies in controlling inflation. The study uses both qualitative and quantitative ap-proaches, including a thorough review of the literature, data analysis from organizations like the Swiss National Bank, Swiss Federal Statistical Office, International Monetary Fund, and World Bank, as well as the use of statistical tools and econometric models.
The Quantity Theory of Money, Keynesian economics, the Phillips Curve, and rational expectations theory are the foundations of the thesis, which offers a theoretical framework for comprehending infla-tion and the function of monetary and fiscal policies in containing it.
The thesis' key findings highlight the importance of several factors in Switzerland's inflation control, including the close relationship between the Swiss economy and the global economy, the limitations of fiscal policy in controlling inflation, the importance of structural reforms in promoting price stability and lowering inflation, the role of inflation expectations in regulating inflation, and the need for a compre-hensive and balanced approach to inflation control.
The implications for Swiss policymakers emphasize the importance of considering the trade-offs be-tween controlling inflation and other policy goals, being aware of fiscal policy's limitations, monitoring inflation expectations, implementing and assessing structural reforms, and being alert and flexible in responding to unexpected shocks and uncertainties.
