Tiivistelmä
This study investigates the potential benefits of establishing a circular economy framework in Bangladesh's textile sector. Although the textile sector is important to the Bangladesh economy, its old linear manufacturing strategy has created severe environmental and social challenges. The move to a circular economy provides an opportunity to resolve these concerns. In this study, primary data were collected through online surveys while secondary data were gathered from literature review. Objectives of the present studies were to (i) identify key companies and organizations involved in the sector's development; (ii) highlight the current production and consumption models; (iii) make more productive and environmentally benign by implementing the principles of circular economies; and (iv) identify potential areas for improvement. The surveys have been conducted among industry experts, textile workers, policymakers, government representatives, and academics by using an online questionnaire. The study suggests that the application of circular economy principles in the textile industry of Bangladesh may reduce resource consumption, minimize waste generation, increase economic opportunities, and thereby mitigate the environmental impacts. The results showed that the majority of respondents were acquainted with the concept of the circular economy and opined that it could have a significant positive impact on the Bangladeshi textile industry. Various challenges, opportunities, and possible mitigation measures in implementing circular economy principles are also discussed.
