Valinnassa on kuitenkin otettava huomioon muutkin ominaisuudet.
Sähköautopalojen sammuttamiseen on kehitetty erilaisia työkaluja sekä menetelmiä. Sähköautopalot ovat tällä hetkellä harvinaisia Suomessa, koska sähköautot ovat yleistyneet vasta viime vuosina. Oletettavasti palojen määrä tulee kasvamaan lähivuosina ajoneuvokannan muuttuessa enemmän sähköiseen suuntaan. This thesis introduces the lithium-ion battery technology and fire safety used in electric and hybrid vehicles. In the media, electric car fires are often portrayed in a negative light. The work was done to increase people’s awareness of electric car fires and their fire safety. This work was conducted as a literature study by familiarizing Finnish and English material on the subject. The database was compiled from several different sources. Conclusions and observations were made from the generated information.
First, the work will review the statistics of vehicles first registered in Finland, after which the thesis moves on to lithium-ion battery technology and their safety requirements for vehicles coming to the European market. Next, the work deals with the factors leading to the battery ignition of an electric car fire, the importance of the battery management system and the problem areas caused by battery burning. At the end of the fire safety chapter, rescue equipment for electric car fires is presented, the harmful effects of fire gases and firewater are opened, and Finnish transport vehicle fire statistics are introduced. In the last chapter, the conclusions formed based on the material are discussed and compiled.
The work showed that the final qualities of a lithium-ion battery depend on the battery chemistry used in it and their ratios. The cathode material used in the battery affects the temperature at thermal runaway. However, other features must also be taken when choosing cathode material.
Different tools and methods have been developed for extinguishing electric car fires. Electric car fires are currently rare in Finland, because electric cars have only become common in recent years. Presumably, the numbers of fires will increase in the next few years as the vehicle fleet changes more in the electric direction.
