This thesis presents a comprehensive analysis of the experiences of a junior-level software developer within an IT software and service company, Tietoevry. The researcher is employed as a Software Developer in the Tietoevry Create line of business, primarily engaged in web and mobile application development in the e-commerce sector.
The study spans an 8-week reporting period between March 28 and June 16, 2023, during which the researcher's role, responsibilities, and challenges are scrutinized.
The primary objective is to drive the researcher's professional development by analysing work experiences, challenges, and successes. Daily reporting and weekly analyses are conducted to identify obstacles, their root causes, and strategies for resolution. The goal is not to provide prescriptive solutions but to offer reference points for professionals in the broader IT sector.
The study delves into key concepts such as web and mobile development, programming libraries, frameworks, client, and server-side development, and continuous integration and delivery. Additionally, it explores project management methodologies, including Waterfall and Agile (Scrum), and emphasizes the importance of usability, user experience, and accessibility in software development.
The initial situation analysis focuses on the researcher's job responsibilities, skills, and interactions. It highlights the transition from slow progress to rapid growth, as per the S-Curve framework, and underscores the importance of building relationships, embracing new challenges, and learning from failures.
