Tiivistelmä
Well-being at work is a phenomenon which has important reflections on the outcome of the work and the overall life quality of the people involved in working life. Private entrepreneurship is a relatively large employment sector in Finland, and the term refers to a person who works for themselves. Private entrepreneurs also have the responsibility to look after their own well-being at work, as there are no regulations or aid compared to employees working in larger organisations.
The purpose of this research was to discover the current well-being situation inside company X, which is run by a private entrepreneur and present the factors affecting the well-being. In addition, the thesis aims to provide possible recommendations on what changes the private entrepreneur could make to enhance her well-being at work and maximise her efficiency through that.
The research was conducted as qualitative research, and the data was collected through a semi-structured interview. With the help of qualitative re-search, the study is able to provide in-depth and personalised information. The topic of well-being at work was approached by the JDR theory, which separates the factors of well-being into job demands and job resources.
The research findings indicate that the private entrepreneur who participated in the research had several job demands, affecting their well-being negatively, many of which were psychological factors. However, the motivating and autonomic nature of being a private entrepreneur brings a lot of job resources, which help to reduce the negative effects. To enhance well-being at work, the private entrepreneur should focus more on preparing for the seasonal stress factors and trying to separate her free time from her job. Moreover, the private entrepreneur should aim to provide more free time to take care of her physical and psychological well-being.
