Tiivistelmä
This thesis conducted a financial performance analysis of the Finnish manufacturing companies Neste, Stora Enso, Kone, and Wärtsilä from 2019 to 2022. In addition, the relation between CDP scores and the financial performance of the case companies was analyzed. Climate change scores were analyzed only because the other scores were missing data. Based on the results, the author provided recommendations.
The theoretical framework consisted of the financial statement analysis, ratio analysis, CDP: Carbon Disclosure Project, and the manufacturing industry. Two types of research methods were utilized in this thesis. The first method was the qualitative research method for the theoretical framework. The second method was the quantitative method for the financial analysis and the CDP scores.
The financial statement analysis was measured by vertical and horizontal analysis. The ratio analysis was calculated by efficiency, liquidity, solvency, and profitability ratios. The relation between the CDP scores and financial performance was examined. Recommendations were given according to the insights of the analysis.
The financial analysis indicated that all the case companies increased in total revenue in the 2021 to 2022 timeline compared to 2019 to 2020. There was an increase in gross profit for all case companies except Kone which remained fixed. The ratio analysis indicated a comprehensive understanding of the financial situation of each case company. Businesses that had good ratios had higher rankings in CDP scores in comparison to businesses that did not.
