Tiivistelmä
This bachelor thesis explores the experiences of Swedish ice hockey coaches working in Switzerland, aiming to provide insights into the dynamics of cultural adaptation, leadership styles, and coaching practices in the context of transnational coaching. Limited research in the domain of transnational ice hockey coaching, and no existing research on Swedish ice hockey coaches coaching in Switzerland guided the selection of the thesis topic.

The specific domains of Migration in Sports, Coach Effectiveness, Cultural Competence, and Intercultural Effectiveness represent the theoretical framework and are consistent with the relevant literature. To support the answering of the research questions. The theoretical framework will serve as a strainer to filter the interview findings.

For the study, four native Swedish coaches, each with a unique background and extensive coaching experience in Switzerland, provide extensive insights through semi-structured interviews. A case study with convenience sampling of the participants was selected for the study. The created data was anonymized and an inductive analysis was carried out. Through two phases of coding, the data was organized into two higher order themes and two lower order themes. The results of the study are presented through the higher and lower order themes, and with anonymized quotations from the participants.

The study delves into cultural differences between Sweden and Switzerland, examining their impact on daily interactions within the coaching organizations. Findings reveal the influence of regional social identities on national ice hockey identity, challenges posed by cultural disparities in leadership styles, and the coaches' reflections on Swiss organizational practices. The study also highlights the role of players in decision-making, power structures, and the ongoing process of cultural adaptation, emphasizing its impact on both professional and personal development.

While recognizing certain limitations, the research contributes valuable insights to the understanding of cultural adaptation and leadership in the realm of transnational coaching, paving the way for future research endeavors in this dynamic field.
