Tiivistelmä
The topic of this research focuses on examining the impact of ChatGPT on learning experiences of IT students. The objective is to explore the IT students’ perceptions of ChatGPT’s utility, its ease of use, role in shaping their study habits and engagement, and their perspectives on educational integration with ChatGPT or similar AI tools.

The research employs methodologies including literature review, data collection and data analysis ensuring the holistic view of the problems. Both quantitative and qualitative data analysis are utilized to interpret and understand the results.

The findings underscore the versatile and power of ChatGPT. IT students are already using ChatGPT as a study assistant for different academic tasks. The majority of research participants find it useful for clarifying complex IT terms, summarizing texts, generating ideas, and particularly beneficial in aiding coding and code debugging. Nonetheless, there were limitations and challenges identified. ChatGPT occasionally struggles with up-to-date topics, providing accurate responses, verifying facts, and referencing its sources. A notable issue is ethical considerations of integrating AI into educational environments. Such concerns make some IT students hesitant to adopt it in an official institutional context. This highlights the need for and importance of appropriate ethical guidelines and tailored instructions for effective utilization of ChatGPT and other AI tools.

While the scope of this research may be limited, there is a need for expansive study to a broader range of students across fields and academic stages.
