Tiivistelmä
The aim of this thesis project was to develop tourism services for Finnish customers for a travel agency based in Peru. The process lasted in total for about 6 months since it was started in June 2023 and was completed in December 2023. The end product of the project is a business model for the travel agency which has been built following the results of the completed research. The services that are provided for the Finnish clients are authentic experiences where the customers can get to know the real side of the country in unique destinations.
The theoretical framework of the research includes a study of the factors that are currently affecting the tourism industry, the present trends and challenges in the tourism sector in Peru as well as a section of strategic business planning for a tourism company and its process that the author was following throughout the project.
The research method was chosen to be service design as that enabled the author to use creative visual methods and tools to investigate the topic in a close contact with the customer. The main model that was used for the research was Stanford design thinking model and the author followed the 5 steps of empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test during the process. The main data collection method was the survey that was made for Finnish travellers who had been in Peru before. However, the whole process included various methods and tools which the author was using in this research. The research question for the project was: What would be the best possible model for the company X to expand its services for Finnish customers traveling to Peru?
The end result of the research is a complete business model that the author can follow when planning the new services for the Finnish clients and test the model in practice. As there had been some research done before about young Finnish travellers to Peru and their interest, the author concentrated to investigate more of the older age groups in the research which gave her valuable information of varied segment groups.
In the end, the final prototypes were tested, and the business model was completed and will be tested later on by the author in practice.
