Tiivistelmä
Props in games are an important part of delivering immersive experience to the player. Yet when it came to available research, prop design lacked deeper studies with aspects such as narrative and interactive purposes of props. These affect the design and the design process. This thesis focused on props to elaborate on the creation process through project experience, as well as to provide food for thought for designers on usage of props.
The thesis was divided into reviewing previous research and materials along project knowledge, and studies on different uses of props in media. The lack of research meant researching other games or film, which helped to find answers on interaction and narrative uses of props. While the research showed props’ both narrative and interactive purpose should be thought in design, it left room for more focused future research.
