Project logistics is a fast-paced, dynamic, and ever-changing field of logistics,
which activities impact highly on a project’s success. Without proper control of
ongoing and upcoming events in a project, it is difficult to plan and follow up on
the progress. On-time delivery and following contractual delivery dates often fall
on the shoulders of logistics, as it is the last link in a project supply chain.
The objective of the thesis was firstly to confirm a need for a better process in the
commissioning company for planning workday activities in a project logistics
operational team. Secondly, to create a solution that supports the team in having
better visibility of the project status and to be able to plan their next tasks at hand.
Qualitative method was used to gather supporting theoretical background on the
topic and a semi-structured survey was held among the logistics experts to
gather insights on their current working methods, usage of tools, as well as their
wishes and suggestions for the future.
The survey results showed that no unified process existed, and usage of
supportive tools was low. As a result, a suggestion was created in the form of an
Operational Dashboard, to support the operative project logistics team in their
daily work. The report was outlined to highlight the most important information
needed by the team to follow up on active and upcoming projects.
