Bipolar disorder is a serious mental disorder that initiates with inappropriate fluctuations of mood and energy, causing disabilities worldwide. The aim of the study is to enhance the significance of home care for bipolar disorder management and increase awareness about caring approaches among nurses during care. The study focuses on identifying the efficacy of self-care intervention and therapies, improvement in nurse’s interventions, attitudes, and care approaches in managing symptoms and reducing relapse of bipolar disorder. The theoretical framework adopted for this research was Modelling and Remodeling theory propounded by Erickson, Tomlin and P. swain in 1983.
The method used for this thesis was a qualitative systematic literature review. Nine scientific and peer-reviewed articles published from 2016- 2023 in EBSCO Academic Search Elite, CINAHL, and PubMed were used for data analysis of this study. The data was analyzed via Qualitative content analysis which emerged 4 main themes and 13 subthemes as the result of the study.
The results represented that home care treatment can be an effective health care service for bipolar patients as it was focused on individualized interventions based on the patient’s needs. It reduced readmissions at inpatient institutions like hospitals, and service was accessible 24/7 with family involvement. Home care treatment based on a person-centered staff care approach enhanced better health outcomes and quality of care. The facilitation of therapies and self-care intervention programs improved personal recovery, reduced symptoms, and helped in the relapse management of bipolar patients. Nursing intervention based on maintaining Therapeutic nurse-patient relationships, shared decision-making, communication, and positive attitude are other factors that played a vital role in delivering effective care at homes.
