Tiivistelmä
ERP systems are essential software for any multinational corporations. These evolved from helping manufacturing companies to better managing production to support organization wide operational management. These systems can not only improve the efficiency of the interconnected processes, but also replace the different disconnected systems with one that can handle most if not all management, core and support processes.
ERP systems nowadays however are not only available for such large organization, but also widely accessible for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). How can an SME choose the most suitable ERP system for its needs? This thesis report explores this question in a wider context through a Hungarian SME case company, Gép-Mester LLC, with the main objective to identify and recommend the most suitable ERP systems for its organizational needs. The theory in the study covers topics for business process discovery and mapping, ERP considerations for SMEs as well as ERP requirements setting and system selection best practices.
Using the identified primary data collection methods, the processes to be included into ERP were mapped and described, including optimization opportunities where these were possible. Among other key considerations, these mapped and described processes provided the base for the ERP requirements document. This document was used during the secondary data collection and final analysis to identify and recommend two ERP systems for the case company that would be the most suitable to meet its organizational needs.
