Tiivistelmä
The background of the study drew from the author’s past experiences in the field of project management and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Motivated by these experiences, the research aimed to contribute understanding the state of the project management in the Finnish Border Guard and researching ERP system requirements for the project management point of view.
The objectives were twofold, investigated the current state of project management processes, tools and methodologies and then provided information about project management specifications for the incoming Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. This involved identifying the project management requirements for the ERP. By achieving these objectives, research aimed to contribute to the improvement of the project management and ensure that ERP system has all the needed project management features.
A mixed-methods approach was employed, utilizing online survey for data collection. Steps were taken to ensure survey validity and reliability, including pilot testing and careful survey design.
Findings indicated a need for official project management guidance at the Finnish Border Guard, with high anticipation for ERP-system implementation. Conclusions highlighted variability in project management practices and the importance of standardization before ERP implementation, presenting a significant future challenge.
