Young employees have been faced with more and more challenges in the society and working life. The individual wellbeing builds the foundation for being able and succeeding at work. Sleep is the most influential factor in one’s health and wellbeing.
The objective of the study was to describe and explain the connection of the sleeping habits of the employees when under 30 years of age, and their experienced ability to work. The research questions aimed to reveal the sleeping habits and their effects on wellbeing, and to show how the ability to work was experienced and what factors affected it.
The research was carried out as a case study, using quantitative methods. A Webropol survey was used as a data collection method. The questionnaire included structured questions with multiple-choice and Likert-scale questions.
The study showed that even though sleeping habits were generally on a good level, there was a group of young employees with sleeping problems affecting their performance. The characteristics of work was experienced positively. Mental exhaustion was experienced widely, but the causes remained unclear, and sleep had only a minor influence. As a conclusion, the sleeping habits as a part of overall wellbeing showed a relation with the mental wellbeing and work performance. The study offered the commissioner a possibility to improve the employee experience and wellbeing along with the improved efficiency of the work force.
