Corporate sustainability models in airline business

Abstract

Facing the challenges of global climate change and environmental degradation, the aviation industry, as one of the important sources of global carbon emissions, urgently needs to explore new paths for sustainable development. This study explores the sustainable development model of the aviation business. The aviation industry faces increasing pressure for sustainable development due to its significant contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions. This study explores how airlines respond to environmental challenges by adopting sustainable strategies through literature review, case analysis, and SWOT and PEST analyses. The study found that despite cost and technical barriers, many airlines have taken proactive steps to reduce their environmental footprint, such as introducing sustainable aviation fuels, optimizing operational efficiency, improving aircraft fuel efficiency, and implementing circular economy practices. These measures not only help airlines reduce carbon emissions, but also enhance their market competitiveness and customer loyalty. Case studies highlight practical successes from companies such as KLM, American Airlines and Etihad Airways. This study concludes that through continued technological innovation and international cooperation, the aviation industry can further strengthen the implementation of sustainable development strategies. Future research could explore a wider range of technical solutions and policy support to promote industry-wide green transformation.
