Tiivistelmä
Individuals with a stoma, especially those from diverse cultural backgrounds with deeply held religious convictions, may encounter challenges throughout their experience. Creating a treatment plan that considers the patient's choices, values, and cultural background and developing specific educational materials for nurses that emphasize providing care to patients from diverse backgrounds. This study aimed to focus on nursing awareness regarding patients with stomas from a cultural perspective.
A qualitative systematic literature review methodology was conducted by an extensive literature search on databases, which included CINAHL, PubMed, EBSCO, and GOOGLE Scholar. Madeleine Leininger’s theory of transcultural care was used for the theoretical framework.
Review: The critical evaluation of the data reveals two (2) major themes and six (6) sub-themes that emerged from the eleven (11) articles analyzed. The main findings reviewed a lack of cultural competence among nurses especially those working in diverse environments. Education of Nurses training can be vital for promoting awareness. In conclusion, possessing a basic understanding of the culture, common beliefs, and behaviors of the different patients will help implement a care plan and quality of life for the patients.
