Tiivistelmä
In a world full of distractions, procrastination has become an increasingly common problem. It is a by-product of the fast-paced environment and is especially prevalent in academic and creative sectors. There are mixed views on how to approach procrastination, and therefore the goal of this thesis was to explore those views, raise awareness about the problem, create helpful tools to challenge it, and enhance creativity.
Literary, video and online sources were used to research the subject. Interviews were conducted with students at Tampere University of Applied Sciences, specifically from the Music Production study path, to show their understanding and struggles with procrastination. A self-observational creative project was made based on the subject to try to apply certain work efficiency practices and monitor the experience. It was discovered that personal interest, mental health, social and cultural environments are all factors to consider while discussing the correlation between procrastination and creativity. Conclusions as to which approaches were helpful and which were not during the creation of the EP project, as well as suggestions to boost work efficiency and creativity were provided. Some of the helpful approaches included responsible scheduling with incorporated resting days, outsourcing materials for inspiration, splitting the workload into smaller parts, managing the attraction to phone screens and other suggestions.
