Tiivistelmä
This thesis was commissioned by Scanclimber Ltd with the intention to prepare groundwork for introduction of systematic knowledge management processes to the company.
To answer the research question “What would be the best way to share knowledge in Scanclimber with the purpose of increasing the company know-how?” literature on topic of knowledge management was reviewed. At the same time participatory action research was also conducted within the company. Based on the theoretical framework and observations, six interviews were conducted with the company managers and specialists on topics ranging from state of documentation, current levels of knowledge in the company, increasing the knowledge among employees as well as knowledge retention and knowledge transfer.
Interview results were analyzed, and answers combined into five groups related to knowledge management: state of technical documentation, information storage, employees’ skillset, knowledge retention, and knowledge sharing. In discussion the results were evaluated against the theoretical premises. The last chapter, recommendations, contains a list of concrete steps to improve documentation handling, and increase knowledge in the company.
