Tiivistelmä
The aim of this research is to assess the effectiveness of Finnish integration courses and their
associated internship programs in enhancing the professional, linguistic, and cultural adaptation
of international talents in Finland.
The research of the thesis was divided into three investigative questions and one research
question, focusing on how internships contribute to skill development, knowledge acquisition,
and career readiness for foreign talents participating in these programs.
The primary and secondary research were conducted through a combination of qualitative
interviews and quantitative surveys, targeting participants of integration courses across various
educational institutions. This mixed-methods approach provided a comprehensive
understanding of the multifaceted impacts of these programs.
According to the findings of this research, internships play a significant role in facilitating not
only professional development but also in accelerating language acquisition and cultural
adaptation. However, discrepancies in the quality and relevance of internship placements were
noted, suggesting a need for more structured and tailored program designs.
This thesis provides useful insights for policymakers, educators, and business leaders,
highlighting the benefits and challenges of current integration and internship programs. It
suggests that enhancing these programs could further leverage the skills and talents of
international professionals in Finland, thus benefiting both the individuals and the broader
society.
