Tiivistelmä
Learning and developing of entrepreneurial skills is essential to fostering competences required in profit- and non-profit-oriented organizations. The main objective of this study was, to provide an extensive assessment of XAMK’s Post-Graduate Diploma programme in Entrepreneurship and Start-ups (PGD) to enhance students' entrepreneurial skills. Specifically, the study aimed to assess how well the PGD programme prepared students across various aspects of entrepreneurship, including idea generation, business development, and scaling ventures.
A mixed-methods approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative methods was used in this study. The survey method, a quantitative approach, involved 25 student participants. Additionally, qualitative interviews were conducted with PGD students and course design lecturers. Furthermore, benchmarking was employed to compare the XAMK PGD programme with similar programmes offered by other universities. This comprehensive methodology framework provided diverse insights into the effectiveness and attributes of the PGD programme.
According to the research results, the XAMK PGD programme successfully enhances students’ entrepreneurial skills development. Through a combination of surveys, interviews, and benchmarking, it was evident that students perceive the programme positively and benefit significantly from its curriculum. Particularly, the programme exceeded students' expectations in ideas generation, business development, and scaling ventures. However, specific areas that required enhancement such as enhanced cultural awareness and collaboration opportunities were noted. Overall, the study highlighted the programme's strengths and provided valuable insights for refining its curriculum to meet the demands of aspiring entrepreneurs better.
The study's benefits to the commissioner include practical suggestions for curriculum enhancement, collaboration opportunities, Finnish language lesson engagement improvement, and ensuring long-term relevance and success in entrepreneurship education.
