This study explores the importance of management training in the yachting industry by researching how maritime professionals view the current state and development needs of the field.
The study is a qualitative research project, with source material that has been gathered with themed interviews and analysed with a grouping analysis method. The results point to the importance of management training, outline the current state of the industry, and help understand the various perspectives and background factors that contribute to the perceived importance of training.
The main finding of the research is that management training is seen to be extremely important for the yachting industry, and there is a general wish that such training could be more comprehensive. Moreover, training should be continuous, and include more information and tools for leading people in everyday work situations. Better leadership skills of captains and officers would benefit everyone working and operating in the yachting industry.
