LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a flawed successor to the culturally revered LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga. The Skywalker Saga succeeds in modernizing the core aspects of The Complete Saga to bring a more expansive game experience, but fails to obtain the same tight design from its predecessor. The content of the game is broad and shallow, leading to a variety of gameplay mechanics which become repetitive and tedious as time goes on. The three main design components; user interface, systems design, and level design; all contain elements which devalue the player’s time and ability, which hinders the game’s flow and enjoyment.
The research is conducted through observation and analysis, accompanied by a comparative study between The Skywalker Saga and The Complete Saga. The paper acknowledges the limitation of the research, concluding the analysis to lack depth in order to cover the wide breadth of the game. Instead, the paper aims to serve as a comprehensive overview to demonstrate the connections of the various design choices and game elements.
