Apparel Import in Finland from Pakistan : A step-by-step guide

Abstract

This thesis presents a qualitative study aimed at developing a comprehensive manual to guide and train employees of a case company in the process of importing apparel from Pakistan to Finland. The study is a combination of semi-structured interviews conducted with owners and employees of Finland-based companies owned by Pakistani owners and intensive document analysis to explore the intricacies of import procedures, terminologies, and regulatory requirements. The theoretical framework delves into the rationale behind developing manuals, their benefits, challenges, and strategies for effective manual writing. Additionally, it examines the principles of good writing essential for creating a user-friendly and informative handbook. Methodologically, the study employs semi-structured interviews with a selected group of respondents that include Finland based business owners and employees of companies engaged in apparel import from Pakistan. These interviews provided valuable insights into the practical aspects, challenges, and best practices associated with the import process. Furthermore, a thorough analysis of documents sourced from official websites of Finnish Customs, government, tax administration and other relevant sources elucidates the step-by-step import procedures, required documentation, and terminologies involved in the process. Findings from the qualitative analysis are synthesized to inform the development of the import processes manual. The manual aims to address the specific needs of employees involved in apparel importation, providing clear guidance and instructions at each stage of the process. By integrating insights from both interviews and document analysis, the manual seeks to enhance understanding and proficiency in import processes among the employees. The research contributes to the existing literature by offering practical insights into the development of manuals for import processes, particularly in the context of apparel importation from Pakistan to Finland. The resulting handbook serves as a valuable resource for the case company seeking to streamline their import operations and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
