The advancement of 3D reconstruction is being propelled by recent technological advancements like the metaverse, while concepts such as digital twins are gaining increased recognition. This thesis was commissioned by the Häme University of Applied Sciences. This topic is closely linked to the industrial application of 3D reconstruction in the field of automation.
The thesis project involved conducting a comprehensive technical review of SLAM and the RTAB-Map library. This process is preparing for the practical implementation of a mobile application that utilizes RTAB-Map for 3D reconstruction. It aims to unlock the capabilities of 3D reconstruction on a handheld device and present a solution for future automation projects.
