Nowadays, entrepreneurship education has been established as a strategic approach to empowering and generating employment opportunities for young people globally. Entrepreneurship has further gained attention for enhancing the development of entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to effectively initiate and expand commercial venture through creative thinking, skill acquisition, and vocational training.
This study investigated the effect of entrepreneurship education on the performance of small and medi-um-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria, coupled with challenges encountered by the business owners and entrepreneurs. Several opportunities available to the business owners’ and entrepreneurs through entrepreneurship education are highlighted and critically examined.
This thesis was divided into five chapters. A descriptive survey design was adopted with a sample size of one hundred and one (101) small business owners from Kwara and Oyo States, Nigeria. The sample con-sisted of sixty-nine (69) participants from Kwara State and thirty-two participants from Oyo States. A con-venience sampling method was adopted, a questionnaire was administered electronically to the small business owners and entrepreneurs. For the reliability and validity of research instrument, a pilot test was conducted with a reliability co-efficient of 0.803. The statistical analysis software (SmartPLS) was em-ployed for data analysis at a 0.05 level of significance.
The hypotheses generated in this study are tested, it shows that entrepreneurship education has a signif-icance impact on improving the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises in market expansion, profitability, productivity, business networking, competitive advantage, succession planning, and product development.
The small business owners and entrepreneurs need to be more strategic towards skill acquisition and training to boost and add more value to their businesses.
