Tiivistelmä
The thesis sought to develop a Mobile Scanner App working as a technical solution to the widespread issues of allergens cognizance, nutritional information awareness and personal food product management. People suffering from food allergies as well as health-conscious individuals could find it difficult to get useful dietary information quickly while shopping, which highlights a space for a practical solution to be applied.
Theoretical knowledge was acquired through the review of books, scientific journals, and articles on key concepts like food allergies, nutrition, health, and mobile development, which uncovered insights into the thesis problem and its intricacies. The research method used for this thesis was comprised of a mix between quantitative analysis and qualitative assessment. The thesis proceeds by discussing the development project, delving into the conceptual design, technical architecture, and implementation details.
The research and development conducted for the Mobile Scanner App produced results showcasing the successful implementation of the core functionalities sought after by the research questions, as well as the Importance of the solution’s application. Through the integration testing and analysis, it was concluded that the final product was capable of quickly retrieving accurate nutritional and allergen information, and reminding the user about impending expiration date, although the accuracy and application of the text recognition model could still be greatly improved and refined. Additionally, a better suited database solution can be conceived to ensure the sufficient amount of retrievable food products.
