Tiivistelmä
Overtourism has become an urgent problem that needs to be solved in many cities. Many cities and regions are heading towards overtourism. But so far there is no available index to measure overtourism.
This study attempted to establish the overtourism calculation model and formula so that the degree of overtourism can be calculated. Combined with literature theories, different parameters and indicators were used to try to formulate several calculation methods. Obtain the psychological feelings of residents and tourists through field surveys. Practically calculate the overtourism index for dozens of tourist destinations.
This study adopted a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. In the field questionnaire survey, a stratified random sampling method was adopted, and Webropol statistical results were used to draw visual charts.
Four available overtourism index calculation methods were established. The overtourism index was calculated for 13 countries, 25 general destinations, and 17 specific destinations during a specific time period. It was deduced that the overtourism threshold for general destinations was 28. Obtained the value of the psychological perceptions of Helsinki citizens and tourists towards the city's overtourism in April 2024.
Although the quantitative calculation of overtourism is very complex, it can be calculated through certain formulas and measurable indicators. The calculation results might have deviations, but under the same conditions, they still have comparative and reference value. The calculation results have reference value for tourism management and tourists’ decision making.
