User Experience (UX) plays a crucial role in the cloud computing industry. The objective of this thesis is to conduct a comprehensive comparative analysis of the UX of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and UpCloud management consoles. This research analyses user feedback to identify the shortcomings in the UX of the management consoles for both platforms. It highlights key areas for improvement and provides recommendations to improve the overall UX.
This comparative study was conducted using a survey. The survey included both quantitative and qualitative data which was collected through questionnaires. Two identical questionnaires were prepared - one for AWS and one for UpCloud. These questionnaires were distributed to participants with experience in the cloud industry and who were either familiar with AWS, UpCloud or both. Each question had a 1 to 5 rating scale, followed by open feedback.
Overall, both platforms were found to have their strengths and weaknesses. Compared to UpCloud, AWS received the highest scores for UX in terms of usability, management tools and features offered. Where, most weaknesses were found in the AWS management console UI, visuals and design. In contrast, UpCloud had lower UX scores compared to AWS in terms of usability, tools and features, but scored quite high for its intuitive UI and modern console designs.
Based on the results, UI improvements for AWS and usability improvements for UpCloud are suggested for both platforms, which could positively impact their UX.
