Tiivistelmä
This thesis was implemented using a portfolio style, and it documents the journey of becoming a social media entrepreneur. It is written from a unique perspective of an aspiring entrepreneur providing an authentic and transparent overview of personal development and professional growth. This thesis can serve as a guide or example for readers with similar career endeavors.

The rapidly evolving landscape of social media is a relevant and intriguing field to venture in with new trends constantly being introduced. One of which is user-generated content or UGC. The primary objective of this thesis is to examine the theory of social media, with a specific focus on UGC. The thesis commences with a theoretical framework section that uncovers social media’s and UGC’s characteristics, opportunities and risks supported by relevant resources. It defines the needs and objectives of personal branding and corporate social responsibility in regards of social media. Additionally, it provides an overview of how to navigate the field as an embarking entrepreneur.

The secondary objective is to follow the process of launching a UGC content creator business. The thesis details the process of building a UGC portfolio website, establishing a personal brand, experimenting with different platforms, networking, email marketing and registering a business. Additionally, this section of the thesis evaluates the process’ outcomes through graphs, numbers and by pointing out key learning points.

The final part of the thesis includes a discussion chapter consisting of self-evaluation and analyzing the developments. This section compares the mindset and skills in the beginning and end of the empirical phase, revealing significant changes and growth. The section identifies which parts were done with success and which need further improvement.

The thesis concludes with a business strategy that is considerate to the findings of the process. It reflects on the on the past progress and sets the entrepreneur up for future success in the field of social media and UGC.
