This thesis investigates how Ethiopian coffee growers are affected by sustainable agricultural methods, concentrating on small-scale growers. Ethiopia, the country where Arabica coffee originated, depends largely on coffee production, which is becoming more and more vulnerable to climate change. Significant obstacles that small-scale coffee producers must overcome include unstable market pricing, restricted market access, and the unpredictability of weather patterns. Through an examination of Ethiopian farmers' existing perceptions of sustainability, this research highlights the potential and challenges associated with adopting sustainable practices, and it studies how doing so might help one gains a competitive advantage in the global market.
The study employs a qualitative research design by using questionnaires to collect primary data and a thorough literature review to contextualize the results. The findings emphasize the necessity of focused interventions to assist farmers in making the switch to more sustainable practices and the important function that sustainability will play in ensuring Ethiopian coffee production in the future. To secure Ethiopian coffee's long-term sustainability and global competitiveness, the thesis ends with suggestions for improving the adoption of sustainable practices.
