Tiivistelmä
This thesis investigates the impact of green hotel practices on tourist experiences within the Sri Lankan hospitality sector. As the global emphasis on environmental sustainability grows, the hos pitality industry has increasingly incorporated green practices such as energy conservation, water saving measures, and waste reduction. The objectives of this study were to examine how these practices influence tourist perceptions of environmental responsibility, satisfaction with their stay, and intentions to revisit and recommend green hotels. The theoretical framework draws from literature on sustainable tourism, environmental psychology, and hospitality management, emphasizing the link between green practices and positive tourist behaviors.
The study employed a quantitative approach, gathering data from six hotels selected based on their implementation of sustainable initiatives. Data collection was facilitated by two research assistants who coordinated with hotels across various regions in Sri Lanka to conduct surveys with guests. A structured questionnaire was administered, yielding 107 responses, of which 100 were analyzed. The data was processed using SPSS software, with analyses including descriptive statistics, correlation, regression, and reliability testing. The study timeline spanned from September 22 to October 28, 2024, covering data collection, response sorting, and analysis.
The findings demonstrate that green practices positively influence tourist perceptions of sustainability, leading to enhanced satisfaction and greater intentions to revisit and recommend these hotels. The results align with the theoretical framework, highlighting the role of green practices in shaping guest experiences and fostering loyalty. This study contributes valuable insights for hoteliers and policymakers on promoting sustainable tourism by integrating eco-friendly practices that align with the expectations of environmentally conscious travelers
