This descriptive literature review investigates the multifaceted effects of nicotine use on adolescents, focusing on psychological and holistic well-being. Nicotine, a highly addictive substance found in tobacco products, has been shown to have numerous adverse health consequences. This review synthesizes current research to highlight the psychological impacts, including increased risk of mood disorders, cognitive impairments, and the potential for developing addiction. Holistic well-being, encompassing emotional, and somatic health, is also adversely affected, with nicotine use contributing to poorer overall health outcomes and cognitive functioning.
The review emphasizes the importance of educating adolescents on the risks associated with nicotine use and the benefits of cessation. Effective cessation methods and educational strategies are discussed, providing a framework for reducing nicotine consumption among adolescents. The findings underscore the critical need for targeted interventions to prevent and reduce nicotine use in this vulnerable population, ultimately promoting healthier development and wellbeing.
