Tiivistelmä
This thesis investigates the obstacles encountered in talent acquisition within the entertainment sector of Finland, with particular emphasis on the shortcomings of conventional casting techniques and the significant dependence on personal connections. The aim was to assess how a mobile application-based platform could transform casting methodologies by improving transparency, accessibility, and efficiency. The research encompassed a thorough literature review to create a theoretical framework addressing digital transformation, talent acquisition strategies, and the unique requirements of the entertainment industry. Central to this framework were concepts such as the platform economy and principles of user-centred design.
A qualitative research approach was adopted, employing semi-structured interviews with Finnish actors and producers to obtain detailed insights into the existing casting landscape. The data gathered were subjected to thematic analysis, adhering to Braun and Clarke's six-step process. This analytical approach facilitated the identification of recurring themes concerning the challenges faced by stakeholders in the industry, including the reliance on personal networks, barriers for emerging talent, language difficulties, and the inefficiencies inherent in traditional casting methods. The research was conducted within a defined timeframe to maintain relevance and precision.
The findings indicated a distinct necessity for digital transformation within the casting process. Both actors and producers demonstrated a strong interest in a centralised mobile application that would democratize access to casting opportunities, diminish dependence on exclusive networks, and facilitate communication. The envisioned platform would include detailed actor profiles, sophisticated search and filtering capabilities, integrated communication features, and support for multiple languages. The implications of this study suggest that the introduction of such a platform could greatly improve inclusivity, diversity, and innovation in Finland's entertainment sector, thereby aligning it with global digital transformation trends.
