Tiivistelmä
IPMs (Industrial Product Manufacturers) play a vital role in economic development and technological advancement around the world. They provide the foundational products needed to build infrastructure, enable manufacturing, and drive innovation.

As a manufacturer, an IPM typically possesses robust capabilities in product design, research & development, production, however, industry data, relevant reports, and insights from professionals indicate that the vast majority (typically 90% or more) of IPMs sell outsourced products, even if these outsourced products are within their own production capabilities. This thesis aims to investigate and analyse the challenges faced by IPMs when selling outsourced products and propose corresponding solutions.

This thesis began by identifying the stakeholders involved in the IPMs selling outsourced product process through a combination of literature study, interview and expert review. Following the identification of stakeholders involved in the process, the author collected 526 datasets through academic research, questionnaires, and interviews to study the potential challenges faced by these stakeholders. Subsequently, the author collected 316 datasets through individual assessment questionnaires, interviews, and meetings, focusing on the likelihood and consequences of these challenges. Then identified the priority challenges by applying the trimmed mean statistical method in conjunction with the 5x5 assessment matrix. The author further analysed the root causes underlying these priority challenges using the 5 Whys methodology. Corresponding solutions were then developed through expert seminar discussions facilitated by the six thinking hats model. Furthermore, the functional teams responsible for implementing these solutions within a typical IPM were identified, thereby increasing the practical applicability of the research findings.

Future research could further explore the detailed implementation steps, associated costs, and anticipated benefits of executing these proposed solutions.
