This thesis explores emotional intelligence (EI) as a vital part of leading the organizational change management process during the post-pandemic era. The case study presented focuses on a Barcelona-based startup known as Passnfly. Based on the historical evolution of EI and the various models and theories within an organizational framework to improve working conditions, the research has been extended.
The specific objectives of the study are to establish how leaders use EI in navigating the shifts brought about by the pandemic, to assess the contribution of EI in decision-making, and to establish the ability of EI to enable leadership to practice the management of a crisis effectively. A thematic analysis on the qualitative data from interview sessions held with Passnfly leaders at different levels and adopting different work modalities, namely on-site, hybrid, and fully remote is performed. Furthermore, this analysis shows that EI is an important factor in leaders adapting, changing their communication styles for greater team cohesion, and hence, enhancing organizational resilience against disruptions.
The findings emphasize the role of EI in developing leaders who will create a collaborative and supportive work environment in continuous change. This study recommends that formalized EI assessment and frequent development may enhance leadership impact even more, and consequently organizations will be able to build a resilient culture with emotionally competent people for sustainable growth in a fast-moving business world.
