Tiivistelmä
The aim of this thesis was to develop a software registry to help businesses manage their software assets effectively. With the increasing reliance on digital tools, businesses require a centralized solution to monitor the company’s software usage, cost, and compliance. The software registry provides a system to track all software across the organization, offers a personalized application page to each user and comprehensive software listing, while also giving management capabilities for administrators.
The software registry’s backend was implemented using Serverless architecture with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB. The frontend was implemented using React, Typescript, Vite, and OpenAPI for API calls. This approach allowed for scalability and efficient data management, while role-based access control ensured sensitive operations were restricted to authorized users only. Key features of the registry included the ability to add, update, delete, set statuses, and recommend software entries, supporting robust asset management.
The results show that the software registry streamlines the software management tasks, reduces compliance risks, and improved decision-making processes by providing valuable insights into usage patterns. The system’s flexibility and scalability make it a practical solution for businesses of varying sizes. Overall, this study contributes to the field of software asset management by offering a practical tool that addresses compliance, security, and cost optimization in software usage.
