Tiivistelmä
The emergence of digital technology in the food industry has become crucial to stay competitive in today’s technology-driven marketplace. This study investigates the franchise, Subway, and Hungry Hub on adopting digital technologies, illustrating the findings from the perspective of Franchisors and Franchisees.

The study examines the impact of advanced technology on key driving factors of the food franchise, including operational efficiency, enhanced customer experience, data-driven decision-making, customer engagement, and competitive edge in the market. Findings also revealed difficulties while implementing digital technologies including high implementation costs, data safety concerns, skill gaps in the workforce, and reluctance to change from traditional working methods to digitalized working processes.

This study operates through the application of a qualitative research approach to collect and analyze data from literature reviews and in-depth interviews with Subway and Hungry Hub representatives—analyzed materials including academic articles, interviews, and case studies.

The outcomes of this thesis show that effective adoption and maintenance of digital tools require constant support from franchisors in training employees, providing data security guidelines, and assistance in solving technical problems. Despite having challenges, digital technologies are part and parcel of performing operation tasks and progressing according to strategic goals. This study presents an in-depth exploration that implicates franchisors and franchisees to adopt digitalization for the effective progress of the food industry franchise.
