The maritime industry is vital to global trade, yet it faces significant challenges in ensuring safety and operational efficiency. The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) is the fundamental element to the maritime safety, providing essential communication and distress services. However, we are still using 30-year-old technology for GMDSS operations, and its complexity remains unchanged.
GMDSS demands innovations that not only enhance the system but also reduce the workload on deck officers. This thesis explores the integration of modern technologies to simplify maritime safety, focusing on the enhancement of GMDSS and the reduction of deck officer’s workload.
