Tiivistelmä
This thesis titled, “Exploring the halal food market for Muslim immigrants in Finland, customers’ view on trends, challenges, and business opportunities in Helsinki”, is focused on the accessibility and market potential of halal food industry for Muslim immigrants in Finland’s capital city Helsinki. A quantitative survey was conducted in this research to explore the trends of consumption, challenges and business opportunities in the halal food industry.
The results of the survey showed a strong demand for the halal food business and products that align with the Muslim community’s need. Despite the challenges of the accessibility and availability of the halal food in the mainstream markets, the prices of the halal products are high because of the reliance on the imports. As a solution to these challenges, this thesis highlighted the business opportunities of launching new businesses, expanding existing ones, establishing new halal certification authorities and strengthening the existing bodies to gain trust of the consumer.
Implementing these solutions with the policymaking will help in eradicating the existing challenges, meeting the dietary needs of the Muslim community of immigrants in Finland and growth of Finnish economy at large.
