Tiivistelmä
The thesis is a case study of a startup company. It examines business drivers affected by business model change and growth when the startup is transitioning to become a Small-Medium Enterprise. The research focuses on a single startup company in Finland. The company is focusing on its growth by developing its business model.

This thesis aimed to study and identify the business drivers in change while the case company is in its growth phase. This work further investigates the business model development, studies the definitions and characteristics of startups and Small-Medium Enterprises, and enhances our understanding of the transition and the role of business models in transition. The objective was to explore business drivers and transition outcomes of business model change.

The theoretical part examined definitions through theories related to startups, such as Organizational Life Cycle theory and Complexity theory, growth stages, business drivers, and business models. The chosen method was inductive qualitative research, and the qualitative data was collected from semi-structured interviews conducted with the company’s key personnel.

As a result, it was found which internal and external drivers have influenced the changes in the company’s business model. The empirical findings have shown that the recent business model developments have increased growth and stabilized internal business operations. The changes made in the business model have produced good results but have yet to achieve revenue stream-related milestones such as breakeven.
