The application of Virtual Reality (VR) in rehabilitation for post stroke patients

Abstract

The aim and objective of this review is to provide up-to-date information on the application of Virtual Reality on stroke patient’s rehabilitation to the professionals in Satasairaala, the information includes the current use of the technology around the world, results such as benefits compared to or in conjunction with conventional therapy, as well as it’s limitation or draw-backs. The information was gathered through PubMed and Google scholar with keyword searching, the publish date for the research were set to be within 10 years, but supporting articles from the studies might exceed that time frame. In conclusion, Virtual reality therapy proves to be a valuable ad-dition to conventional therapy as it shows significantly improved outcomes than conventional therapy in multiple studies targeting various functional ability such as balance and upper limb motor function. Despite the promising results, more research is still needed as the studies focused on a particular phase of stroke and the results are not universally applicable.
