Tiivistelmä
CALD nursing students have various experiences of learning Finnish language. The purpose of the study was to explore the various ways which support CALD nursing students to acquire adequate Finnish language skills during their studies. The aim was to find possible ways which are available to CALD nursing students in the acquisition of Finnish skills in their nursing education.
The authors used qualitative research methods in this study, and the data was collected using purposive sampling as the target group were the nursing students who had no knowledge of Finnish language before their studies. Semi-structured interviews (n=6) were conducted using how and what questions. The interviews were conducted via online meeting. The data collected was analyzed by using inductive content analysis. The data was checked and reviewed several times by listening to recorded audios and reading transcribed texts through the entire process of analysis.
The study yielded a result of three main concepts which are: motivation, positive attitude towards learning Finnish language and continuous practice and usage of the Finnish language. The results of the study will be helpful to CALD nursing students to learn and acquire sufficient Finnish language skills during their studies.
