Tiivistelmä
Objective: This study aims to systematically review literature about the palliative care nurses’ current state of well-being, the factors contributing to it, and evidence-based coping strategies to improve their well-being.

Methods: This study used a qualitative research approach through a systematic literature review by thoroughly analyzing eleven (11) peer-reviewed qualitative articles published between 2018 and 2024. A thorough search was conducted across three databases: Academic Search Elite, CINAHL Complete, and MEDLINE. The articles were screened and filtered using inclusion and exclusion criteria. This study was guided by the Transactional Model of Stress and Coping Theory.

Results: The findings of this study revealed six prominent themes. (1) Emotional strain which resulted from burnout and mental health struggles of palliative care nurses, along with their sense of powerlessness and hopelessness. (2) Perspective on death and meaning due to palliative care nurses’ views about death and their personal reflection. (3) Work environment as a result of personnel shortages, organizational constraints, and good team dynamics. (4) Relationship with patients and families caused by family involvement and challenges, and communication barriers. (5) Job satisfaction due to emotional fulfillment and gratitude. (6) Coping strategies resulting from the palliative care nurses’ coping mechanisms and defense mechanisms.

Conclusion: This study concludes that palliative care nurses’ well-being was rooted from the underdeveloped care for nurses’ well-being which also leads to greater problems in the healthcare such as burnout causing shortage of staff.
