Tiivistelmä
The present thesis studied the Chile-based company Algramo and whether its business concept could be implemented in Finland from the customer’s perspective as it is, or if it were to require any changes. Algramo has pioneered a sustainable system that promotes the use of reusable packaging for daily-life products, to reduce plastic waste.

This study was motivated by climate change and its catastrophic repercussions. Consequently, we believe that models such as Algramo’s can be a game changer for the betterment of the cause.

A mixed-methods survey was conducted among Finnish consumers, focusing on attitudes, motivations, and potential barriers to the use of reusable packaging. Furthermore, secondary data was used to understand sustainable business landscapes in Finland and Chile and the cultural differences between the two. The approach allowed for a holistic analysis, combining statistical trends with contextual insights.

The survey and the secondary data together showed significant demand for the service despite some obstacles. Barriers to inconveniencing a smooth implementation regardless of Finns’ high awareness of environmental issues include accustomed traits such as preferences for convenience and domestically familiar products. Nonetheless, with some strategic adaptations, an implementation seems feasible for Algramo’s business model concept, and opportunities for comparable models seem abundant in the Finnish market, as long as eco-friendliness and cost-savings remain at the forefront of selling points.
