Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this study is to increase the communication between the nurses and the elderly people residing in Attendo Kuninkaanhaka Care home in Pori using music focused recreation. With the ageing population across all parts of the world, it is more crucial than even providing a good quality of life in care homes for the elderly. It is notable that recreation and social participation as well as physical activity have numerous positive effects on both the cognition, mental health and physical health of the elders. This thesis seeks to assess the effects of the musical chairs and hot potato games on 35 elderly people of and above 65 years.

Agile project management method approach in both quantitative and qualitative data from observations and feedback made on the residents and nurses involved in their care. The activities took two days, and each session lasted for 1.5 hours on average. In the activities, the residents played musical chairs, hot potato and bingo quizzes that went along with music and with snacks such as coffee and ice-cream.

This research notes that overall, levels of participation were considerably greater when music came into play with people singing and even dancing during musical chairs and reporting excitement and trying other activities. Experimentation uncovered improved levels and frequency of social contacts and positive emotional reactions; feedback pointed to residents' well-being and satisfaction with those activities. Feedback from both residents and staff indicated that the music-based activities fostered a sense of community and enhanced emotional well-being.

The findings suggest that integrating music-based movement activities in care home settings can effectively enhance the quality of life for elderly residents by promoting greater engagement, physical and cognitive health, and emotional well-being. This research provides valuable insights and practical recommendations for care home management to implement similar programs, contributing to improved elder care practices.
