Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this study is to explore the features of the culture and practices of using personal protective equipment (PPE) on vessels operated by Finnish shipping companies. The research includes an analysis of international and national regulations governing the use of PPE, with a focus on the requirements for crew members and employers. Particular attention is paid to factors affecting the effective use of PPE, such as its availability, quality of training, and the influence of safety culture on compliance with rules. Survey results revealed key insights, such as a lack of work shoes provided to temporary workers and trainees, high satisfaction with basic PPE items like helmets and gloves, but notable dissatisfaction with respirators and footwear.
