Tiivistelmä
Pressure ulcers are a type of chronic wound that has a significant effect on patient outcomes and as well as the economy. They are a frequently occurring adverse event in hospitals and care homes, especially among immobilized aging clients. Nurses among other healthcare staff have an important role in preventing PUs. Nurses' understanding of bed sores is crucial for effective and evidence-based prevention of PU with the goal of preventing pressure damage from occurring at all and, if it does, identifying the problem early to prevent deterioration and facilitate healing. Education & trainings, along with collaboration are effective means of gaining evidence-based insight into understanding pressure injuries and preventing them. Documentation and communication are effective forms of reporting that are critical for facilitating the monitoring of daily nursing care and ensuring continuity of care in the prevention of PI on the aging client. Nurses play an important role in preventing pressure injuries by providing varied levels of care to older patients. Betty Neuman System Theory was utilized in identifying levels of interventions for the prevention of pressure ulcer in the elderly bedridden client. According to the theory, once a stressor is detected or identified, intervention should begin. Interventions are based on potential or actual reaction, resources, goals, and expected consequences. Neuman defines three degrees of intervention: Primary, secondary, and tertiary.
This academic research involved the syntheses of the most recent scientific studies on pressure sores and preventative methods.
